Must meet program health requirements that include: being free from communicable diseases and other conditions that would prevent the successful performance of the responsibilities and tasks required in the education and training of a Nurse Assistant. The student must satisfactorily pass a physical examination by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner and have a negative TB test or Chest X-ray.
The Urban League of Kansas operates a full-service employment and training center as well as a career bank for jobseekers and employers.
We help individuals access the skills, knowledge, support and networks they need to enter the workforce and advance in their careers. Our programs raise employment and income levels through job training and placement services, career exposure, career advancement, seminars, coaching and long-term retention strategies. The League has also formed strong relationship and partnerships with local employers and training providers to offer employment and training opportunities.
PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT PROGRAM
At-a-glance: The program includes Nurse Aide (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA), and CPR. This is an 8-week course held Mondays-Fridays from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) program at the Urban League of Kansas prepares Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide candidates for careers in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals. Participants receive classroom and laboratory instruction and supervised clinical practice in local long-term care institutions. The program includes content required for state and federal nursing assistant-home health aide guidelines and qualifies participants to take the state certification exam at the end of the program.
Program Duration: 8 Weeks. Classes are offered fives times a year. Class sessions are scheduled from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except on clinical and lab days.
Upon completion of the Patient Care Assistant Program the participants will receive 8 hours CEU's as well as certificates in the following areas:

The PCA program training strategies are designed in collaboration with employers representing Long- term care facilities, home health agencies, hospitals and assisted living. While the PCA program is designed to provide participants with comprehensive short term training that introduces them to the healthcare industry, the goal is to help them gain and retain employment, while at the same time advancing the economic career ladder within the healthcare field. Employer participation is critical to the success of the program. Employers actively participate in orientation for new students and support the program by providing needed resources in terms of group discussion and seminars during our soft skills training in:

Past students who are success stories are invited to speak with students. Annual job fairs are being conducted in partnership with end users. We are in the process of setting up a Task Force consisting of representatives from the healthcare industry to advice KQC staff on development and operations of the program.

HEALTH OCCUPATION TECHNOLOGY
At-a-glance: This 19-hour certification program includes Nurse Aide (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA), Medication Aide (CMA), Intro to Health, Terminology, First Aid, CPR and Career Planning. This a roughly 22-week program that is held Mondays-Fridays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Participants must be eligible for Financial Aid.
The Health Occupation Technology program, also referred to as the HOT program, is designed to prepare students for employment in the medical field. This program provides online and instructor-led training in partnership with Pratt (Kansas) Community College as a part of their Associate of General Studies program. Upon successfully passing the state exams, students become Certified Nursing Assistants, Home Health Aides and Medication Aides as certified by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). Certified Nursing Assistants are eligible to perform patient care and home health aide duties and work as medication aides.
Program duration: The HOT program is hybrid, with theory provided both on-line and face-to-face with an instructor. The total program takes approximately 24 weeks to complete and includes 30 hours of clinical experience at a state approved licensed nursing home.
Classes are offered Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 2:00pm. Clinical hours: 7:00am – 2:30pm on specific days.

CUSTOMER CARE PROGRAM
At-a-glance: The program engages individuals who have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent in a 6-week course held Mondays-Fridays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Customer Care program prepares individuals with skills needed to provide quality customer service duties. It includes training to address important issues facing customer service providers and customer service managers with a thorough understanding of the customer service industry. This program is in partnership between the Urban League of Kansas and Butler Community College.
Students in this program gain knowledge of communications skills and develop expertise in the proper use of the Internet, e-mail and Microsoft Office software. The Customer Service Representative curriculum teaches students to integrate an organization's service philosophy and strategy into the systems and people-management policies to ensure success in the 21st century business environment. This program offers a guaranteed interview with the largest call centers in Wichita, Kansas, upon completion of training.
The Customer Service Representative program is face-to-face training with an instructor. Total program takes appr. 6 weeks to complete and includes soft skills training.
Classes are offered Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.
Graduates of the program are prepared to work as a customer service representative in a variety of businesses and other related occupations including call centers, clerk, teller, and salesperson.
